Hollywood Comes to Hoosier State: Heartland Brings Big Names and Intimacy to the Midwest. Celebrating Film and Women in the Industry.
For nearly three decades, Heartland Film Festival has been inspiring filmmakers and audiences alike through the transformative power of film. The nonprofit arts organisation was founded in 1991 with the mission to celebrate independent filmmakers and their stories that have the potential to inspire and connect people from all walks of life. This year, Heartland Film Festival has taken another step towards inclusion by signing on to the Parity Pledge, committing to making 50% of its 2020 lineup directed by women.
The festival's growth over the years is impressive, having started as a five-day event with less than 20 films to an eleven-day celebration featuring 200+ visiting filmmakers and 300+ film screenings. Heartland International Film Festival has built its reputation on impactful movies, the connections audiences make with visiting filmmakers, the overall hospitality and intimacy of the experience, and bringing big Hollywood names like Robert Downey Jr., Jessica Biel, Rob Reiner, and Oscar® winner Geoffrey Rush to the Hoosier state.
This year, the festival celebrates its 29th anniversary from October 8-18, with a blend of virtual and drive-in screenings. Attendees can choose between a fest pass, ticket package, or individual screening purchases, unlocking films to view during the festival dates. With Q&As and panels scheduled for live streaming, viewers can still participate in discussions and engage with filmmakers even from a distance.
One film that attendees can look forward to is THE SINNERS, a thrilling mystery that follows a group of seven high school girls who are targeted by a killer after they confess their sins during a slumber party. Directed by Courtney Paige, the film showcases her talent and the power of women in the industry.
The festival's commitment to showcasing films directed by women not only gives these filmmakers a platform to showcase their work but also helps to break down barriers and create a more inclusive industry. Heartland Film Festival continues to inspire and connect filmmakers and audiences alike through the art of storytelling and the magic of cinema.
